Dupes for Kat Von D’s Lolita

Hi guys! Today I just wanted to share with you some alternatives for the ever-popular Kat Von D lipstick in Lolita. It’s a dusty rose color that seems to be permanently sold out, so I thought I would look through my collection and find some dupes!

From left to right we have Jordana Matte lipstick in Mystery, KVD Lolita, Maybelline Creamy Matte in Touch of Spice, and lastly, Sephora + Pantone’s new lipstick in Marsala. None of these are 100% spot on dupes; Mystery is pinker, Touch of Spice is slightly more mauve, and Marsala has more brown in it.  Touch of Spice and Marsala are really close once they’re on the lips, though!

The closest dupe I have found is…Wet n Wild’s Megalast lipstick in Spiked With Rum.

Here is Spiked With Rum swatched next to Lolita:

As you can hopefully tell, the colors are quite similar! To me, the biggest difference is that Lolita has a very flat matte finish and Spiked With Rum is more of a semi-matte finish—although personally, I prefer the finish of the Wet n Wild lipstick! It isn’t anywhere near as drying as the KVD lipstick, in my opinion. Also, Spiked With Rum is a mere $2, while Lolita is $20. You really can’t complain!

Update: Kat Von D’s Light 42 is BACK IN STOCK

I know several of you guys have asked me when this foundation was going to be back in stock on the Sephora website, and after months and months of waiting, the Lock-it Tattoo Foundation in Light 42 is FINALLY available to purchase! I have a feeling it will sell out quickly, so go order a bottle ASAP. Good luck!

Dupes for Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss lipsticks!

What’s better than lipstick reviews? Lipstick dupes, of course! As you know, I recently reviewed four of Kat Von D’s new Studded Kiss lipsticks. While I do really like those lipsticks, after I played around with them I realized that I had some very similar colors. So I swatched them to compare, and *drumroll* I have found some dupes!

L-R: Nyx Alabama, Kat Von D Archangel, Revlon Matte In The Red
L-R: Nyx Alabama, Kat Von D Archangel, Revlon Matte In The Red

Nyx’s Alabama is slightly darker, but a very close dupe on the lips. What I was excited to find is that Kat Von D’s Archangel looks exactly like Revlon’s In The Red, which is part of their matte line. It is, regrettably, discontinued, but you can still find them on Amazon for under five bucks.

L-R: Nars Heatwave, Revlon Moondrops Orange Flip, Nyx Pure Red, Kat Von D Countess

Nyx’s Indie Flick and Nars Heatwave are quite similar to Countess.

L-R: NYC Mahogany, Wet n Wild Cherry Bomb, Kat Von D Vampira
L-R: NYC Mahogany, Wet n Wild Cherry Bomb, Kat Von D Vampira

These are the dupes I was most excited about. Both Mahogany and Cherry Bomb are dead-on dupes for Vampira. Mahogany, by NYC, is the same color but with a creamier finish. Cherry Bomb by Wet n Wild is 100% just like Vampira–same color, same matte finish.

L-R: Burt's Bees Lip Crayon in Napa Vineyard, Kat Von D Hexagram, Revlon Matte lip crayon in Standout
L-R: Burt’s Bees Lip Crayon in Napa Vineyard, Kat Von D Hexagram, Revlon Matte lip crayon in Standout

In my opinion, Revlon’s Matte Balm in Standout is a perfect dupe!

In a way, I was a little disappointed that the Kat Von D lipsticks were so dupeable, you know? I love doing these dupe posts so that if you already own a color, you can be sure that you won’t replicate it, and if there’s a high-end lipstick that you like but don’t want to pay the big bucks for, I can maybe show you an alternative. Hope this helps!

Review: Kat Von D Studded Kiss lipsticks in Archangel, Countess, Hexagram, and Vampira

Today I have four of the new Kat Von D Studded Kiss lipsticks to share with you ladies, and boy am I excited. I love Kat Von D’s makeup, and when I found out she was releasing a new line of lipsticks, I was thrilled. I got four of the matte shades: Archangel, Countess, Hexagram, and Vampira. I love these lipsticks even more than I thought I would.

The packaging is so cute, but also edgy–I love the studded cases with their embossed Kat Von D logo. And the lipsticks themselves smell delicious, like caramel and vanilla. They seriously smell like a candy bar, people.

I have heard many bloggers complain that these don’t go on well, and that they’re dry and drag on the lips, but I have to totally disagree with them. Especially considering that they’re matte lipsticks, I thought they went on feeling very soft and creamy, and I don’t find them drying at all.  I mean no disrespect, but I do think many women don’t know how to apply a matte lipstick. You DO have to exfoliate your lips and put a balm underneath, or your lipstick probably will seem dry and patchy. To me, these feel so soft going on, and the colors are rich and opaque with one swipe.  They are mattes, but they aren’t dry and flat like, say, MAC’s Ruby Woo is. Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss lipsticks are, in my opinion, the perfect matte formula.

Now, let’s talk about the colors themselves. First up is Archangel. It is a beautiful burnt red, almost brick red but with a warmer undertone. I love the color and feel of this one.

Next is Countess. It is the brightest of the ones I got, and it looks quite similar to the Kat Von D Everlasting liquid lipstick in A Go-Go, except with more red in it. It’s like a fiery coral red, and is almost neon it’s so bright. My camera did not pick up how bright it is!

This is Hexagram. I got it because I love deeper reds, and this is a great blue-based dark red for cooler skin tones. It is called a blood-red on the Sephora site, but I’m not sure that’s the best description, although regardless it is a lovely color.

Lastly, here is Vampira. I have been wanting the liquid version of this color for months, but it’s always sold out, so I was glad to finally get to try this color. It is a very dark oxblood type shade, a reddish burgundy. I love shades like this because they have a good balance of red and purple, and are great for fall.

I am in love with these Studded Kiss lipsticks. I think the colors are unique and beautiful, and I love the creamy feel and longevity of the lipsticks. My two favorites are Archangel and Countess, but I like all of them. I appreciate that Kat Von D included so many colors in this line–there are the traditional reds and pinks, but also a navy blue, a black, and pale lavender, for example. Although I got only matte finishes, there are also metallic and satin finishes in this line, so there is an option for everyone. They cost $21, but they’re worth it.

Update on the return of Kat Von D Light 42!

I though some of my fellow pale chicks would like to know that it looks like the shade Light 42 in the Kat Von D Lock-it Tattoo Foundation is indeed going to return! I sort of haunt the Sephora website, and I noticed that the page for the Kat Von D foundation now says that Light 42 will return in the Fall, and to watch the website for when it’s up for grabs!  Yeah, it’s only foundation, but I’m hyped!

Here’s the proof:

Note that it clearly says “Coming Soon”…and look at this little apology…

It looks like Kat Von D finally listened to the legions of fans who needed their shade back! Now we just have to wait until Fall.

I gotta say, this is the best news I have heard all day!

Is Kat Von D Lock-it Tattoo foundation in Light 42 coming back?!

Look at what I found on the Sephora website! True, it says out of stock, but usually it isn’t even listed at all! I could be wrong, but it looks like they are bringing back the shade Light 42. I know a lot of pale girls were devastated when this was discontinued, but now, maybe it’s safe to get your hopes up…

Hello, lovely ladies! I just made a Sephora haul for the first time in ages! I was lucky enough to get the Urban Decay Anarchy palette on clearance, and I got the Kat Von D Shadeshifter eyeshadow in On the Road and my favorite Sephora Cream Lip stain in Always Red.
